1st post

Welcome to www.ailes.co.uk after much head scratching and a lot of help from Lee my new web site is starting to take shape. The site is here to showcase my Large Format black and white photography. For those of you who are not familiar with LF it involves sticking your head under a cloth and viewing the world upside down and back to front! LF cameras use cut sheets of film loaded into dark slides, the most common format is 5x4(I use it for proofing my shots) and 8x10 which I use to take the images, that's inches by the way. The camera employs a flexible bellows between the film plane and lens board enabling much greater control on the final geometry of the photographed objects and of the perspective as well as on the areas of sharpness. I will go into this in more detail on further blogs.........the bottom line is the quality of the image these cameras produce. Also thanks to my wife Jen who puts up with me and my quest for the next shot...
